Action Plan

Jacqueline Kulle The peer review helped me a lot for my action plan and gave me more ideas and insight on what I should do. I was struggling with what I should do for my subversion, and I got the idea to do a meme or a comic strip. I have to finish and touch up my website, finish my nondigital picture, finish my comic strip, and get more participants for my survey. The peer review was beneficial and now I have a much clear idea on how I should do this project.

Action Plan

After the peer review I got a lot of feedback that I will use to improve project three. My group helped me come up with more ideas for my subversion genre. I really enjoyed listening to everyone else's genres because it helped me think outside the box. I'm still contemplating if I want to do a poll or create a social media account to get my message across outside of the classroom. However, right now I have a documentary about cheerleading for my digital genre and I'm planning on telling a story for my non-digital genre.

Kirstyn Marsh ENC2135  My action plan is to work on developing my genres to the fullest. I already have my subversive genre which doubles as digital media. My main goal is to try and figure out how to work this wix website because that is the most confusing part to me.

Syvannah Boland Before the peer review, I did not have any concrete ideas as to what to do with the remediation of my research essay. I know now that I want to make a Twitter page, an online poster, and to draw a cartoon. Some of my ideas were creative but were not relevant enough to my topic to execute, so I changed my ideas to these three, which meet the requirements for digital, non digital, expanding outside the classroom, and subversion.

Action Plan

For my action plan I will add more pictures to my website and continue to expand on my topic. I also plan to make posters to place around campus to reach outside audiences and use that as my nondigital source. I will continue to work over the weekend to finish the project and best carry out my message on my website.

To make my project more appealing to audience i would like to add more color. Make my entire topic directed to a specific audience. Mine can be for parents who have teens is my main audience. My topic is not to teach Sex Education but i would like to explain the importance and encourage educators to teach their teens. A critique I got was that i should use subversion. I think my topic is a little serious to include a subversion genre. My two digital genres I chose was videos of others stories that explained why it Sex Education could benefit them or why it did, I also chose to survey others on what they got out of taking these courses. Lastly, I chose for my not digital genre I would like to make a Newspaper that includes the importance of Sex Education.

I am still finding images to piece together for a poster, as my non-digital genre. My survey is done, I just need to make sure I have more people take it. I'm planning on posting it on all of my social media accounts, making the participants mostly students. I also need to find a way to put the memes together so that they all relate to each other, and fit well with the rest of my genres. With my topic being very broad, finding a clear idea of what I was going to focus my genres on was a challenge.

Haley Ketchum My plan is to finish my three genres and finish my website. My website is nearly finished, but still needs a few touches to make it look good and work efficiently. I’m still unsure of how I am going to do my three genres. I forgot about how one of the three genres has to be non-digital, or a remediation, etc, so I need to replan my genres so they fit these requirements.

For my project I need to develop a subversion and a non-digital component to my project. One of my ideas is to bring in a fishing pole and a bucket and fill it up with water and maybe Swedish fish as my subversion as my topic is about fish and their environment. It is a little hard to make a subversion of such a serious topic but I think this could be one way to do it. Also I have to ready my website and make it presentable for the class.

Julie Thayer I am going to put final touches on my website and hopefully find a parents blog I can link to my website. I have a few ideas for my nondigital portion of my project, either a newspaper or even magazine. I'm also considering possibly adding photos I have taken or even adding memes.

Megan Heller I am going to make two choice maps, one per country, and compare what is seen as "mentally ill" based on standards. This will allow me to put in the cross-cultural analysis done in the paper. I will finish my four panel comic as my subversion between two countries, and keep the survey results on my website, but keep the link to the survey to showcase what it looks like. I will also continue to find ways to incorporate blank spaces in my website while maintaining a sense of cleanliness and professionalism. I will keep neutral tones and lines separating different parts of the website.

Earlier this week, I was completely confused as to what exactly my task was for project 3. Thanks to my peer review, I have gained a better understanding of what I am suppose to do for project 3. I had only developed the un-digital subversive genre remediation, which were five memes. My peers recommended I do a twitter page and a survey for the other two genre remediations that I am required to do. I plan on developing my twitter page on gun control and for it to be active as long as possible. I also plan on informing twitter users of my topic. My subversive un-digital memes will remain the same because it captures the attention of my audience, which are students who support gun control. I will make the questions I input into my survey opinion based, so that I can see how students feel towards gun control and how they feel making current gun regulations stricter will impact the number of mass shootings we have in the United States in the future.

I am going to make my Kahoot game survey into a subversion genre by making half of the survey comical, and the other half of the survey serious. I also am going to keep my Twitter account active. My brochure will be filled with information about genetic engineering. For my website and brochure I am going to use colors like blues, greens, and grays because those colors are associated with science and technology.

Meghan Hawk ENC 2135 After reading my peer review, I have gained a better understanding of how I should complete the remainder of the genre remediation project. Prior last class, I had only developed one remediation. However, with the help of my peers I was able to expand on my ideas and create the rest of the genre remediation. In addition to a subverted meme collage, I will also include a blog with three pages of different accounts that gesture supports language comprehension. This blog and its' posts follows genre conventions and has an audience within the classroom, since it will be presented to my classmates. In addition to this, I will attach multiple TEDTalks that show just how gesture goes to increase the comprehension of the audience. With this remediation, the audience is very much outside of the classroom--with viewers online as well as the physical audience. Final touches will be added prior to Tuesday.

Alison McGrath ENC 2135 I plan to add to my website donation links in order to donate to different organizations in order to help save the rhino. I also plan to create a poster that sends the message to stop poaching, and support rhinos. Lastly, I plan on creating another subversion that appeals to a different audience, such as a stuffed animal or shirt to target the younger audiences. If not, I will make a survey to test the knowledge of a broader audience.

Sophia Fundora This reading made it clear the importance of crediting artists and original curators of content used in order to avoid copyright infringement. In class, we have mentioned the same example of the video of a child innocently caught dancing to Prince that his mother recorded and posted online where it eventually went viral. Due to Prince's strict copyright, the mother was sued and insane amount of money for including the song in her video that was not posted for monetization nor personal gain. When I post videos on YouTube, I make sure to credit the artists and demonetize it since I have perviously had my videos stripped of audio for not doing those exact things. The introduction began by explaining how a child named Holden started dancing to a Prince song, and his mom recorded it to upload it on Youtube to show relatives. Someone came across this video who worked for Universal Music Group and decided to file a copyright complaint. Youtube then took this video down for liability reasons. Lens, the mother of Holden, did not understand what she did wrong and did not violate any laws. There were other examples given, proving how culture functions with situations like these. Another example was given was a comparison of a reception for Bob Marley and one for John Lennon. The one for Bob Marley was very inviting in celebrating him, while the one for John Lennon was not. The one for John Lennon was very concentrated on copyright infringement policies. I found this reading very interesting to see how some people act viciously when people are just trying to listen and enjoy certain music. Alison McGrath ENC 2135 This reading discussed copyright issues, and how a women posted a video of her toddler son dancing to Prince, and was sued. This is surprising to me, because most videos that go viral are usually never reprimanded. Copyrights can be tricky, and I am  sure this moms last intention was to rip off Prince. She was simply a fan, who was unaware of the consequences of copyright laws. Overall, copyrights are not taken lightly, and should be considered when writing, creating music, and even sharing your son's dancing on social media. In my future writing I will pay more attention to copyright issues.

Julie Thayer Before reading "Remix" I didn't realize how common copyright issues occur. I believe sometimes these issues get blown out of proportion, such as in the Lenz's video. Copyright however often deals with bigger issues than just a youtube video. Artist constantly rips off other lyrics and tunes and claim them as their own. I believe this can sometimes be a gray area when they change the work slightly. Unfortunately, there's no clear law that states how much you must change something for it not to be a copyright issue. Mash-ups and remixes are especially where this gray lien occurs. Before this reading, I never realized how little "original work" there is.

I really liked what the author said about the damage that we're not thinking about; the harm to a generation from rendering criminal what comes natural to them. I've never really thought about it that deeply. I've never felt like a criminal for downloading music even though I know it's illegal. But maybe knowing it's illegal all while being a normal thing that everyone does daily has had some kind of subconscious effect on us as a generation. It's interesting to think about copyright and wonder at what point is a line crossed? I think the story of Stephanie Lenz and her baby was completely unreasonable. It was a 30 second video of terrible quality that no one would ever download for the audio of Prince's song and because of that I don't think it should've ever gone as far as it did.

Haley Ketchum Copyright is a huge issue that not many people know about. Copyright is obviously very important, as it protects an artist’s work and prevents others from stealing their ideas and making money off the artist. But like the mom who uploaded her son’s video to YouTube, I had no idea that you could get sued for sharing a video featuring an artist’s music, but it makes sense to me. If the video had gone viral, the mom could have made money off the video, causing her to make money off of Prince’s work. This is not really fair, so I understand why copyright laws need to be taken seriously. I think the mom should have not fought back and just let the video be deleted because it was clear she had broken the law. I also think it is crazy that John Lennon’s copyright debate was still occurring even after the exhibit had opened. It seems excessive and the lawyers were taking it to seriously. The reading was about copyright issues and how to try to avoid them. Many artist copyright their work so that no one comes along and takes their idea and makes money off of it. Many artists take thus Very seriously so one must be cautious when trying to come up with something. If you want to grab ideas from a certain artist you have to make sure that you give credit to the author or creator, or  else they could get mad. One example is the mother who posted the video of her child dancing to a Prince song and got sued for it. The lawsuit is probably a little ridiculous but that is how serious some artist take their work. The mother probably just wanted everyone to see her cute baby and probably could’ve gotten away with it if the video didn’t become viral or if another artists song was playing. Kirstyn Marsh ENC2135      The beginning of this reading explained the true story of a mother who innocently recorded her eighteen month baby dancing to a Prince song and posted it on YouTube. However, she did not expect that she was about to get sued $150,000 over copyright issues. I enjoyed this reading because in a way, it argued for the mother in how the situation should not have been for debate at all. Everything is remixed from something else. In believing this, Prince's own songs were not completely original.

I understand that companies want to copyright there products to keep people from stealing their ideas and possibly redistributing themselves. However, for someone to not allow home videos online because of a song seems a little outrageous. I believe the idea of copyright was thought of more for money reasons than it was for the protection of one’s individual creation. I think interpretation and “remixing” or incorporating one’s work should not only be accepted but appreciated. Well, when the original author is given credit anyways. I think remixing is a form of flattery and a form of the audience responding and appreciating one’s work…

Syvannah Boland I have always known basic copyright laws and how they work, but reading this article made me realize how not crediting an artist when using even the smallest clip of picture of them can turn into a lawsuit (which was something I was not aware could happen). The situation where the mother records her child dancing with a Prince song in the background seems like an innocent and harmless video. However, it was crazy to find out that the mother was sued for $150,000 for posting something she didn't even know was wrong to post. This shows that this woman, along with many others, are not aware of copyright infringement and the depth of the action when it is done. I now know not to post a video with a song, picture, etc. without giving credit to the artist, even if it is barely used or seen in the background. This reading was all about copyright issues and the emphasis certain individuals place on them. Completely original ideas are often hard  to come by and often times there are ideas from one thing that are transferred into other works. To me, the most shocking part of the reading was the story of the mom who got sued for taking a video of her child dancing to a Prince song and posting it on youtube. The mom most likely was unaware of the consequences of posting the video and was just trying to share the cute moment. Personally, I don't think that the mother should have been sued because if anything it would help Princes song get even more recognition and fame. Megan Heller Prior to reading "Remix" I had never given the thought of the importance of copyright. Copyright protects the "original" work from the original artist. It ensures that credit is given when needed to say that it was not their original work, but rather someone else's. In the example given a mother was sued $150,000 for putting a video up on Youtube of her son dancing to Prince, without giving credit or consent. This may be am over exaggeration, but these issues happen all too often, especially in today's world. Original thoughts are difficult to come by sometimes because most things are influenced by other things in the world, but as long as credit is given the issue can be avoided.

Sydney Meyer April,17,2018 The reading was interesting to me because its strange how something so innocent can become something that is very serious. The example of Stephanie Lenz with the prince song is weird to me. I get Universals side as to why they made YouTube take down the video however, I don't see why it would come to suing Stephanie if it didn't get taken down. The other examples how there are rules that not everyone knows about and because one person may get away with it doesn't necessarily mean that it is the correct way of using music. copyrights in general are tricky let alone when they have specific rules for different artists. When making a remix lawyers will state that permission is vital because you are still using their music. Therefore if you are going to make a new song but using a sample from another artist you have to have their permission or you are stealing their work.

Reading "Remix" made me realize how serious large companies take copyright issues. Before reading the remix introduction, I rarely ever focussed on copyrights. The article mentioned many cases of copyright issues that seem ridiculous. Sometimes people don't mean to do it, like the mother in the article. She just wanted to share a video of her son dancing to her family, but in the end she was sued $150,000 by Prince. Personally, I thought this was an overreaction. The mother was just sharing a video of her son dancing to a Prince song in the background. However, this just reminds people how important it is to give the original creators credit for their work, to avoid consequences like this. Even though many new ideas are originated from previous ones, credit should still be given to the owners because the new idea was based off the original one.

Meghan Hawk ENC 2135 After reading Lessig's reading, "Remix", it made me take a step back to realize how serious copyright issues can be taken to a large company, popular musician, or a well known artist. In many cases, I understand the rights to claimed ideas and that they should not be appropriated in instance that exploits them and a non-creator takes credit for the owners' ideas. However, the first situation where a mother was sued for $150,000 over a YouTube video of her child dancing to a Prince song, it a little outrageous. Because YouTube's videos become monetized once they reach a certain numbers of views and it went viral, Prince and his administration immediately saw a problem, which in a sense I can understand, but it wasn't necessary to come at the mother for publicizing a video that made her happy. The remix reading talks about several different examples of copyright situations between singers and people using their music as other forms of entertainment. In my opinion, some of these examples are crazy. The court case between Prince and the mother of the 18 month old baby was taken too far. The mother had no intentions of taking Prince's music, she simply just wanted to show her baby dancing to one of his songs because she thought it was cute and funny. Chapter 10 was very helpful for starting on project 3. The chapter highlighted the importance of using multiple genres on one same topic. Multiple genres allows you to delve deeper into the argument and allows the author to relate to the audience. Different perspectives on one topic can help you to be more creative in your research. The chapter showed some examples of others' projects which was helpful in creating new ideas for mine. Chapter 10 allowed me to better understand how to do project 3 and I now feel more confident and less stressed about it.

His chapter helped me understand what to do in project three. It showed me how a multi genre project is created. First one must come up with a rhetorical topic for ones project. Once the writer has an idea for their topic they must create an elaborate title to grab the readers attention. Then the writer must make the project stand out with editing and making the page look nice so that the reader is intrigued by the project itself. I will aim to do this in my project three so that people are interested in it.

Haley Ketchum Chapter 10 gave lots of information about how to set up a multigenre project that will be helpful for creating project 3. It talks about different ways to construct a multigenre project by giving steps to set it up (introducing the project and giving context, sequencing the genre sequences, titling the project, giving an authors/artists statement, and packaging the project creatively). The chapter gave various examples of multigenre projects, with the examples including audio diaries, film scripts, brochures, and much more. Overall, chapter 10 gave many tips to setting up project 3 and essentially gave me a guide on how to construct my project.

It gave multiple different insights and tips for multi genre projects that will be very useful for our upcoming assignment. Some of the tips given were to have a well thought title as we discussed in our previous few reading responses, give a synopsis about what you're covering, maintaining audience attention by having genres organized by relation to one another, and finally a conclusion to your work. Essentially multi genre project structure can be compared to a properly structured essay. This entire chapter was able to be deemed helpful when looking forward to project three.

Syvannah Boland After reading this chapter, I felt a sense of relief because I personally had no idea what I was going to do for this upcoming project. It provided thorough step by step directions as to how to format and what to include in a multi genre project, and how to appeal to your intended audience. It provided great examples which I will be keeping in mind while creating my remediations for project three. I'm very happy that this was a homework assignment, because it pointed me in the right direction for project three. I will definitely be using this chapter as a guide when I begin to tackle project three.

Alison McGrath ENC 2135 Chapter 10, as a whole, explains how to set up a multi genre project, much like project there. This will be an extremely useful reference when creating my project. I think that now I have a better understanding of how to mix genres, and how to do it in a way that works, and effectively gets my topic across. How am I supposed to make a multimedia project for an argument that the majority of people would not agree with? Chapter 10 of the Bedford Book of Genres gave me ideas like creating a timeline, prezzi, and also including an interview with a specialist. It also provided me a step by step of how to assemble my project and I will use these steps after mapping out how I will organize my project.

I have never thought of this project as a way to experiment and practice different rhetorical situations. During a multigenre project, you have many goals, for example, to persuade, narrate, or even inform. This makes it very easy to use different genre compositions to ensure you can meet your goals.  These multigenre projects are to create a conversation about one topic. I never thought to use each genre I'm using to contain different rhetorical appeals. The modes and mediums one chooses to present each genre are also important. I didn't truly realize the importance choosing the right medium is. I also didn't know that many of the most successful projects contain textual, visual, and audio compositions. Chapter 10 gave a lot of information that will assist with project three about multi genre projects. The chapter began by asking the reader to determine their rhetorical situation of their project. Once they have determined that they are able to further get their message across and reach their audience more effectively. The chapter gives guidelines on how to assemble the multi genre project including; introducing your project, sequencing your genre pieces, titling the project, creating an artists statement, and packaging the project creatively. I will definitely be referring to this chapter while working on my project because it gives so many details and so much insight on how to organize the project.

I am very glad to have read chapter 10 because it helped me better understand the whole concept of project 3. I had no idea of how to start the project or what to do until I read this chapter. It explained to me that multi genre is composed of three compositions that revolve around one specific topic. The author throughly explained every step that had to be taken in order to have a good understand multi genre. For example he stated that in a multi genre project, there should be an introduction, introducing the project, context, sequence, title, clear statement, and there should definitely be creativity to draw audiences attention. I also found the examples that were provided to me through the text to be very helpful in helping me choose how to best reach my audience. I hope after reading this chapter that I am able to compose project 3 in a correct and creative manner.

Chapter 10 includes three examples of multigenre projects that further reinforce what was written, and has overall helped me better understand Project 3 and encourages me to have more fun with my research.

Jacqueline Kulle Chapter 10 discusses how to assemble a multi genre project. The beginning process of assembling this project is thinking about the rhetorical situation and how to properly reach your audience. One way to do this is to provide a perspective that the audience can relate to. Also, you have to introduce the project so the audience has an understanding what it will be about. There must also be creative aspects to keep it interesting and a proper sequence of the pieces. The text gave various examples of multi genre projects to show how to attract the audience and properly assemble one. I found this reading very helpful since we are currently working on our multi genre projects. All of the examples given have a clear purpose, design, and mode. It is vital to make sure the purpose is clear, the audience is targeted, make connections with the audience, how to let them engage, and make the style appropriate and appealing.

Genre projects allows us to break away from the traditional research form of essays. They is no clear cut way to represent the information provided by the research topic. The checklist of completing a multi-genre project. First, the author should think about the purpose of the information. Then select the audience. How will the audience best understand the information? What are the rhetorical appeals. What happens in within the same genre and how can i use this in my piece? Lastly modes and media. Can I reach many different people with the kinds of genres I chose? To assembly my project I chose to help my audience learn by videos/storytelling, political letter, and surveys. I can reach many different people effectively to inform them about my topic.

I found chapter 10 to be very informative about constructing a multi genre project. I have been confused about what to do for the upcoming project, and chapter 10 definitely cleared up some confusion. It states that a multi genre project is a collection of three or more genre compositions composed around one single topic. It goes through all the steps of forming a project. Steps like, introducing the project and providing context, making sure to sequence the genre pieces, title, create a statement, and making the project creatively. It provides three different examples of multi genre projects from other students. These projects helped provide ideas that I could do for my project. When creating my project I plan to follow the steps the chapter provided to make sure my project is complete and addresses all aspects of a multi genre project.

Meghan Hawk ENC 2135 After reading Chapter 10: Assembling a Multigenre Project, I have a better understanding of how to efficiently mix modes of media to transform a genre that follows conventions but also subverts them. This chapter provides examples for all types of cases like narrative, persuasive, and informative arguments. In addition to the arguments, different modes of media are suggested as examples accompanying each style. I found this to be very helpful in that these modes of media could be possible contenders for my own multimedia project. Before reading, I had little sense of direction of where to take this upcoming project. However, after seeing these proposals and the three provided examples I now know how to cater to my audience based on rhetorical appeals as well as the mode and media.

WALL-E is a subversion because it's a light hearted cartoon with a much deeper meaning. Humans have abused planet Earth with industrial corporations to the point where they must abandon it until robots have cleaned it up. The moral lesson is that technology and industry are bad and if we continue on the path we're on, the Earth will turn into the trash ridden world that is in WALL-E. Despite this, the film is still pro-human. Compared to the usual "humans are bad for nature" lesson, WALL-E  actually shows why Earth needs humans. The movie has no real dialogue from anyone, just robot sounds and intercom voices on the ship that the humans live on. Examples of subversion mentioned by the author include the children's book GTFTS, as well as other juvenile literature such as the Three Little Pigs, Heather Has Two Mommies, It's Just a Plant, The Taking Tree, etc... Outside examples include the Scary Movies as well as a collection of poems entitled Dur Struwwelpeter. The first is a subversion because it mocks traditional horror movies by creating a plot which satirizes typical actions of horror movies. The second is a subversion because the poems exhibit children characters who end up injured, sick, or dead. 2. I think the targeted audience for GTFTS is at comedic parents. Views differ on the acceptability of the content being read to young children, but I think the gesture is funny despite its degree of practicality.

Alison McGrath ENC 2135 1) A subversion is when something of the norm is contradicted, for instance, the author uses the book "Go The Fuck To Sleep" as a subversion for children and adults. This is because most parents would never says that to their young child, even if their thinking it. "Scary Movie" and "Space Balls" are examples of subversive movies, because they make fun of existing movies, and contradict their story lines. For example, "Scary Movie" is making fun of scary movies in a comedic way. 2) I think that "Go the Fuck to Sleep" was a very funny change made to a children's book. Some subversions the author mentions are "Go the Fuck to Sleep", which is told in a comical way about how a father deals with trying to make his children go to bed, and the ABZ Book  which tells children to do bad things as a parody. One subversion that I have personally enjoyed is the 2012 movie 21 Jump Street , which is a funny movie based on the original in 1987. The new movie uses comedian actors and includes a lot of funny scenes, making it a subversion of the original. Sophia Fundora 1. The author mentions two types of subversions, the first concerning expressing ideas and emotions not typically appropriate or introduced at the time. The second type of subversion mentioned deals with parodies or mocks that are a result of or a response to other content. Two of the examples given for each was Tom Sawyer  (Twain) for the first type of subversion and Monty Python (1969-74) for the second. Two of my own personal examples are Reservoir Dogs  (Tarantino) and Scream  (Craven). In Reservoir Dogs , the movie revolves around a heist but the heist it is never shown. In Scream , there is an almost comedic acknowledgement of the typical horror movie tropes.  2. Kirstyn Marsh ENC2135 1. The author uses children's didactic books such as Heather Has Two Mommies and parody movies like Monty Python, as examples of subversions. "Happy Tree Friends, an animated series of cartoon characters that would appear to be appropriate for children is an example of a subversion because when you actually watch the show, the cute little characters die bloody deaths and curse. I also believe that Shrek is a subversive movie because not only does in make fun of fairy tales, but when I rewatched it about a month ago I understood numerous inappropriate jokes made for adults that I missed as a child. 2. The article " Multiple Media of Texts: How Onscreen and Paper Texts Incorporate Words, Images, and Other Media" teaches the readers on how to create compositions on screen and writing that deliver complex information, while also making the composition interesting enough to leave the audience wanting more. The author, Wysocki analyzes texts, images, and media that are effective when discussing rhetorical approaches. I had no idea that different sizes and different types of text fonts attracted different responses from the audience. For example, different sizes on font size correlates with the audience the composer intends to attract. The difference in the size of text and style can determine how readers intake the message and their emotional response. Overall, I believe that this text was very useful to me and contained a lot of knowledge that I will take into consideration when working on project 3.

I want my wixwebsite to stand out to my audience, so I don’t want to use formal fonts like Times Roman Numeral, instead I want to use more creative fonts that will make my website look more appealing and unique. However, I would stay away from fonts that are very fancy and hard to read such as script fonts. When it comes to font size, I don’t want to keep everything the same size because it resembles an academic paper, which can tend to bore the audience. I think the more important aspects of the website should stand out such as titles, so making them a bigger font will allow viewers to spot them easily. Also, instead of using just one color like writing a paper, I want to incorporate more than one color that could draw attention to the audience.
