1. What are some
subversion examples the author mentions? Can you think of other two books or
movies that are subversions? Why are they subversions?
Some subversion
examples the author provides is the book Go
the Fuck to Sleep (GTFTS), which is what the text is mainly written about,
and the book Where the Wild Things Are.
Two other books or movies I can think about are the Scary movies, which you would think is a horror movie but is
instead a parody of scary movies, and
Not Another Teen Movie, which is a parody of teen rom-com movies. These are
both subversions because from the titles you would think they are serious
movies, but instead they are parodies of the genre.
2. What do you
think of “Go the Fuck to Sleep?” Who should be the targeted audience for this
book?
I think GTFTS is
a funny concept that a lot of parents can relate to. I can relate to it because
I have a much younger brother who still refuses to go to sleep, and I have
babysat many stubborn children who do not want to go to bed at bedtime. For the
targeted audience, it is not only parents that can targeted, but also anyone
who has had to deal with young, stubborn children.
