1. 1. Some of the examples the author lists as examples of subversions are Seriously, Just Go to Sleep, Where the Mild Things Are, Don Quixote, and Monty Python. I think any of Roald Dahl’s books are subversions such as Matilda and The Witches and George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Dahl's books are subversions because a majority of his literature is comprised of childrens' books; however, most childrens' books contain role models and life lessons where as all of the adults in Dahl's books are greedy, undependable, and purely evil. Orwell's use of satire in Animal Farm portrays political ideology during the Russian Revolution on a farm setting.
2. 2. I think GTFTS is pretty funny, but I wouldn’t read it to my child if he or she was not old enough to understand that the word is inappropriate in many settings such as daycare or school. I think the targeted audience is more adults. I feel the story was supposed to make parents feel better about the struggles of trying to get their children to bed and that all parents go through the struggle of bedtime terrors.
