Prior to reading "Remix" I had never given the thought of the importance of copyright. Copyright protects the "original" work from the original artist. It ensures that credit is given when needed to say that it was not their original work, but rather someone else's. In the example given a mother was sued $150,000 for putting a video up on Youtube of her son dancing to Prince, without giving credit or consent. This may be am over exaggeration, but these issues happen all too often, especially in today's world. Original thoughts are difficult to come by sometimes because most things are influenced by other things in the world, but as long as credit is given the issue can be avoided.

For me personally, original thoughts are soooo rare. I severely lack creativity, yet I always credit the original author if I have to use another person's idea(s).
