Subversion and Redemption

1. The author uses children's didactic books such as Heather Has Two Mommies and parody movies like Monty Python, as examples of subversions. "Happy Tree Friends, an animated series of cartoon characters that would appear to be appropriate for children is an example of a subversion because when you actually watch the show, the cute little characters die bloody deaths and curse. I also believe that Shrek is a subversive movie because not only does in make fun of fairy tales, but when I rewatched it about a month ago I understood numerous inappropriate jokes made for adults that I missed as a child.

2. I think GTFTS is an interesting concept and a fun idea for adults who struggle to get their children to bed. The audience is definitely adults.

    I also think the target audience for GTFTS is adults. Also I never thought of Shrek as a subversive movie until now and I totally agree!!!

    I love your mentioning of Shrek as a subversion because of all of the subliminal messages and the mockery of fairy tales themselves. I also love how it's still appropriate for kids while sending those hidden messages that only adults will pick up on.

    I never did think of Shrek as a subversive movie, but if you really think about it, it is as it mocks other fairy tails and can be a little inappropriate at times.

Action Plan

Jacqueline Kulle The peer review helped me a lot for my action plan and gave me more ideas and insight on what I should do. I was struggling with what I should do for my subversion, and I got the idea to do a meme or a comic strip. I have to finish and touch up my website, finish my nondigital picture, finish my comic strip, and get more participants for my survey. The peer review was beneficial and now I have a much clear idea on how I should do this project.

Subversion and Redemption. Rachel Klahm

1. Some subversion examples the author mentions are Max in  Where the Wild Things Are and Don Quixote. Other movies that are subversions are  A Haunted House and WALL-E. WALL-E is a subversion because it's a light hearted cartoon with a much deeper meaning. Humans have abused planet Earth with industrial corporations to the point where they must abandon it until robots have cleaned it up. The moral lesson is that technology and industry are bad and if we continue on the path we're on, the Earth will turn into the trash ridden world that is in WALL-E. Despite this, the film is still pro-human. Compared to the usual "humans are bad for nature" lesson, WALL-E  actually shows why Earth needs humans. The movie has no real dialogue from anyone, just robot sounds and intercom voices on the ship that the humans live on.
