Subversion and Redemption

1.  The author focuses primarily on the main example of subversion as the book, "Go the Fuck to Sleep", a story of a struggling father to put his wired toddler to bed. Other examples that the author mentions as models of subversion would be Monty Python and It's Just a Plant. Monty Python serves as a comedic parody to the original medieval story of the Holy Grail, twisting the story line and posing alternate relationships. It's Just a Plant follows a similar path as "Go the Fuck to Sleep" in that the adults are seen to have "subversive behavior", not modeling their parental personas. Additional examples of subversion in film would be Reservoir Dogs and Scream. Reservoir Dogs focuses around a heist, and while the characters talk about it and the story develops from this whole event, the event is never actually shown. On the other hand, Scream pokes fun at the horror film tropes, making sure that every character is well aware of what is to come next.

2. I think that "Go the Fuck to Sleep" is a comedic take on a typical bedtime story that would initially be read to toddlers as an attempt to put them to bed. Since the dialogue poses profanity, the audience would be more geared towards frustrated parents wanting a touch of light hearted humor to make their restless nights a little easier.

    I agree that parents reading GTFTS will feel a sense of relief when it comes to their situation because it's relatable and humerous. I think it's a great idea because every parent with young children can relate to the frustration.

    The use of comedy in GTFTS acts as a comedic relief for parents as they can realize that they are not the only people whom struggle putting their children to bed.

Picture Rhetoric

This ticket is advertising an upcoming event that the sorority, Delta Gamma, is holding. It is rhetorically effective because it is colorful and completely delivers the idea that there will be a variety of different desserts at the event. The candies work very closely with theme and helps students to easily look at the ticket and be able to understand what the event is. I think that the size is very effective for this advertising ticket. I also think it very well informs the public because it states the time the event will be held and the date, as well as the address.

Peaceful Protest during the Vietnam War Throughout the sixties, antiwar protests sprung up across America due to the United States' controversial involvement in the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War Protests are marked as being some of the first major anti-war protests in the States. In today's society, there are various non-violent anti-war protests around the globe. These protests have made monumental differences around the world, as put by Julia Bacha, "The [Budrus] residents, after ten months of peaceful resistance, convinced the Israeli government to move the root of the barrier off their lands and to the green line, which is internationally recognized boundary between Israel and the Palestinian territories," (1). Though some may claim that the Vietnam protests had no effect and the only reason we pulled out of the war was due to how costly it was, this protest is pivotal in setting an example for future peaceful protestors throughout history.
