I really liked what the author said about the damage that we're not thinking about; the harm to a generation from rendering criminal what comes natural to them. I've never really thought about it that deeply. I've never felt like a criminal for downloading music even though I know it's illegal. But maybe knowing it's illegal all while being a normal thing that everyone does daily has had some kind of subconscious effect on us as a generation. It's interesting to think about copyright and wonder at what point is a line crossed? I think the story of Stephanie Lenz and her baby was completely unreasonable. It was a 30 second video of terrible quality that no one would ever download for the audio of Prince's song and because of that I don't think it should've ever gone as far as it did.
Sophia Fundora The text "Really Responding" surprised me in the way that Richard Straub claimed that putting forth maximum effort when peer reviewing someone else's paper could make you an even better writer. He emphasizes the importance of writing comments within the margarines and summarizing the paper in your own words. I believe that this strategy mentioned could be very helpful not only for the person who's paper your reviewing but for yourself as well. It helps the writer see how the audience would perceive their paper and what they need to work on. It helps the reviewer by enhancing their comprehension skills and applying their own comments on their own paper as well. I also believe his strategy of taking the stage of drafting in to consideration when peer reviewing could be very helpful. For example, Straub mentions how if it's a first or rough draft, try not to deal with all the editing at once but instead focus on the large picture like the focus, con...
I totally agree that we don't realize the damage of copyrights. And I totally see your point as to how something illegal can feel so normal.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is interesting to think of copyright issues as serious criminal issues. I also think some of the examples given were completely unreasonable.
ReplyDeleteI like how you focused on how we really don't notice the harm we do when it comes to copyright infringement. I agree that the situation with the mother filming her child should not have been dealt with in such an extreme manner, the punishment should simply fit the crime.
