This reading was all about copyright issues and the emphasis certain individuals place on them. Completely original ideas are often hard to come by and often times there are ideas from one thing that are transferred into other works. To me, the most shocking part of the reading was the story of the mom who got sued for taking a video of her child dancing to a Prince song and posting it on youtube. The mom most likely was unaware of the consequences of posting the video and was just trying to share the cute moment. Personally, I don't think that the mother should have been sued because if anything it would help Princes song get even more recognition and fame. This reading taught me that copyright really is no joke and that some individuals take it very seriously.

He emphasizes the importance of writing comments within the margarines and summarizing the paper in your own words. I believe that this strategy mentioned could be very helpful not only for the person who's paper your reviewing but for yourself as well. I also agree that it was shocking that the lawyers would pursue sueing the mother for the video featuring Prince's music.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the mother should have been sued because in her case she wasn't trying to steal Prince's work. She was just trying to share a funny video of her son dancing to his song.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the mother should not have been sued, due to the fact that it was a toddler, and not another artist. She purely believed it was a cute video of her son, and many other viral videos with famous songs have never been sued for copyrights.
