The reading was interesting to me because its strange how something so innocent can become something that is very serious. The example of Stephanie Lenz with the prince song is weird to me. I get Universals side as to why they made YouTube take down the video however, I don't see why it would come to suing Stephanie if it didn't get taken down. The other examples how there are rules that not everyone knows about and because one person may get away with it doesn't necessarily mean that it is the correct way of using music. copyrights in general are tricky let alone when they have specific rules for different artists. When making a remix lawyers will state that permission is vital because you are still using their music. Therefore if you are going to make a new song but using a sample from another artist you have to have their permission or you are stealing their work.

    I agree that copyrights can be tricky to understand, and also that the mother should not have been sued for that much money because she was unaware of her actions. Taking the YouTube video down is one thing, but making her pay $150,000 is very ridiculous.

    I think Universals actions were extremely greedy and that they don't care about the effects of their products on their audience. I also think it is absurd to think that a normal middle class person should ask permission from a social lite, with a possible
    40-million followers, to use their song... I just don't see how that's possible. If credit is given to the original author, the new artist should not be reprimanded... in my opinion anyways.

Throughout chapter 1 of “The Bedford Book of Genres,” I learned that there are a variety of ways to improve one’s writing. Several writers tend to get carried away while writing that they forget who their audience is and what message they are trying to deliver. Action Plan

For my action plan I will add more pictures to my website and continue to expand on my topic. I also plan to make posters to place around campus to reach outside audiences and use that as my nondigital source. I will continue to work over the weekend to finish the project and best carry out my message on my website.

Rachel Klahm 3/27/18

1) In project two I first did a lot of research to gather ideas and topics that I wanted to include in my essay. Then I went through and proofed it while adding citations and formatting everything. I did ended up doing three drafts rather than two. Project one was a little easier to write in my opinion because it was based off of our observations rather than facts and statistics. 2) I liked taking my first draft and transforming it into a final draft. This is where I organized all my thoughts and made the paper flow nicely. Once I have all my ideas out on the paper I can easily reorganize, cut and add new things. 3) I enjoyed project one more. I think it was lighter in the sense that it was more fun to write about. I liked exploring the different kinds of social adaptions in the films while also comparing time eras.
