I have always known basic copyright laws and how they work, but reading this article made me realize how not crediting an artist when using even the smallest clip of picture of them can turn into a lawsuit (which was something I was not aware could happen). The situation where the mother records her child dancing with a Prince song in the background seems like an innocent and harmless video. However, it was crazy to find out that the mother was sued for $150,000 for posting something she didn't even know was wrong to post. This shows that this woman, along with many others, are not aware of copyright infringement and the depth of the action when it is done. I now know not to post a video with a song, picture, etc. without giving credit to the artist, even if it is barely used or seen in the background. I feel as if there needs to be more education on this subject, as there is about plagiarism. Almost every class emphasizes to not plagiarize and explains what it is, but do not do so with copyright infringement.
