Free write (in class)

Syvannah Boland

1. My writing process was different in this project versus project one in that I brainstormed a lot differently due to the change in type of paper. I got all of my quotes, facts, paraphrases, etc. done before I actually made an introduction or cohesive paragraphs because it was easier to start from the sources and work my own writing into it from there. With the first essay, I wrote an intro first to get an idea as to how I would organize my essay, and that was one of my last steps for this project. My rough draft was much less cohesive but it helped me to focus on what to write later.

2. I always prefer transferring one draft to another because starting the writing is the hardest part for me. Once I get something down, it's typically pretty easy for me to stay on a roll and keep writing, whereas in the beginning I usually write and erase at least five times, making it a very time consuming and tedious process. It helps me to look at the draft and take what I have in order to transform it into something else.

3. I preferred project one because in general, I like analytical papers over research papers. I enjoy analyzing readings and making meaning out of it more than I do looking at outside sources and trying to tie multiple pieces of information together. It's usually easier for me to find a topic that interests me for essays like project one more than essays like project two.

  1. I also enjoyed project one more than project two. Analytical papers are so much easier to write and we got to choose something we enjoyed. I liked project two, but project one was much more fun to write.

  2. The use of multiple drafts did help me so I did not have to go back and erase everything, but gave me something to branch off of. I also enjoyed project 1 more because it was more analytical and research papers are more time consuming.

  3. Syvannah, I agree that the brainstorming was completely different from one project to the next. I agree that after having one draft complete, it makes it much easier for you to get more ideas out there to tie everything together and polish your final drafts.

This text showed me how us as readers perceive a certain font or text and how it can influence our mood and how we feel about a certain reading. It also showed me how elaborate texts can draw us into something such as a poster or a title page of a book. Also how very bland fonts do not appeal to many readers as they might think of it as boring and plain. This gives me a lot to think about as project three comes closer. It makes me think of the reader and what type of fonts might draw them into my website, social media page, etc. This text was very helpful for this type of assignment.

Action Plan

Jacqueline Kulle The peer review helped me a lot for my action plan and gave me more ideas and insight on what I should do. I was struggling with what I should do for my subversion, and I got the idea to do a meme or a comic strip. I have to finish and touch up my website, finish my nondigital picture, finish my comic strip, and get more participants for my survey. The peer review was beneficial and now I have a much clear idea on how I should do this project.

Subversion and Redemption. Rachel Klahm

1. Some subversion examples the author mentions are Max in  Where the Wild Things Are and Don Quixote. Other movies that are subversions are  A Haunted House and WALL-E. WALL-E is a subversion because it's a light hearted cartoon with a much deeper meaning. Humans have abused planet Earth with industrial corporations to the point where they must abandon it until robots have cleaned it up. The moral lesson is that technology and industry are bad and if we continue on the path we're on, the Earth will turn into the trash ridden world that is in WALL-E. Despite this, the film is still pro-human. Compared to the usual "humans are bad for nature" lesson, WALL-E  actually shows why Earth needs humans. The movie has no real dialogue from anyone, just robot sounds and intercom voices on the ship that the humans live on. When WALL-E   meets Eva they ask each other "Directive?" which basically means "What's your purpose?" Each robot in the film has a dir...
