Gulen and the
other authors argue, “suicide rates in prisoners are higher than the average
suicide rate of the general population” (1). They test this out by comparing statistics
of French Guiana prisoners of their suicide rates compared to the general
population of French Guiana. The suicide risk was “lower than in mainland
France, possibly reflecting the differences in the social stigma attached to
incarceration because of migrant populations and the importance and
trivialization of drug trafficking among detainees” (Gulen 1).
It is a good start, but is lacking the research question, results, and conclusion. However, the brief summary serves its' purpose.
