"Shitty First Drafts" Response

When writing a paper, I rarely write a first draft, usually due to me waiting till the last minute to write it. But when I do write a first draft, I relate to what Anne Lamott feels when she writes her first draft. Not being able write an introduction, then when I actually do start writing it, what I wrote was absolutely dreadful that I feel the need to just start all over, then worry and fear setting in that I will never be able to complete this paper. It’s nice to know a professional writer like her has the same struggles as me. But when I write a first draft in the future, I want to follow what Lamott says, to just basically write whatever I want. She’s absolutely correct that we are afraid that someone will read our first draft, so we try to make it as perfect as possible. I know I always do that when writing. So next time, I am going to follow Lamott’s instructions and just write whatever I want, just to be able to get the ball rolling and get some good material for my paper. I really enjoyed reading “Shitty First Drafts,” and it was extremely relatable and I enjoyed Lamott’s humor on the subject.

    I totallu agree with you when saying that the introduction is the hardest part of a paper. Ussually I struggle so much with this aspect because I am only concerned with making it completly perfect instead of just using it to convay my ideas.

Throughout chapter 1 of “The Bedford Book of Genres,” I learned that there are a variety of ways to improve one’s writing. Several writers tend to get carried away while writing that they forget who their audience is and what message they are trying to deliver. Action Plan

For my action plan I will add more pictures to my website and continue to expand on my topic. I also plan to make posters to place around campus to reach outside audiences and use that as my nondigital source. I will continue to work over the weekend to finish the project and best carry out my message on my website.

Rachel Klahm 3/27/18

1) In project two I first did a lot of research to gather ideas and topics that I wanted to include in my essay. Then I went through and proofed it while adding citations and formatting everything. I did ended up doing three drafts rather than two. Project one was a little easier to write in my opinion because it was based off of our observations rather than facts and statistics. 2) I liked taking my first draft and transforming it into a final draft. This is where I organized all my thoughts and made the paper flow nicely. Once I have all my ideas out on the paper I can easily reorganize, cut and add new things. 3) I enjoyed project one more. I think it was lighter in the sense that it was more fun to write about. I liked exploring the different kinds of social adaptions in the films while also comparing time eras.
