Bedford Reading Response: Capter 1

          Throughout the Chapter I learned there are many different ways to get your point across. In order to get your point across you have to figure out what the purpose of your point is and why that is the purpose. After figuring out the purpose of your point of view then you have to figure out what type of audience you are going to enlighten with your point of view. Once you have realized both the purpose and audience of your idea then you need to figure out which genre you are going to use to portray your idea. I learned that when writing a paper you have to make sure that these three steps fit together or your paper may not make any since. Also, while reading the text I liked how they used example as we would see them today. such as, the example about Giladhiz the traveler who started a blog to connect with friends and family. I thought it was a great way to connect from such a distance, he could show them pictures and describe his adventures and make the readers feel as if they were there with him. I did not realize that there are so many types of genres, for example, a research paper is a type of genre. I found this chapter to be very helpful a I learned many things about how to plan for papers of even just make sure it will all go together.

  5. Speaking on point of view and how it should be portrayed gives a good indication on how much importance needs to be placed on the audience a writer is trying to appeal to. Using the Giladhiz example was a great way to show how broad of a range there is to writing, and its audience through different genres.

  7. I liked how you stated that the Giladhiz blog "connected to the audience from a distance". Because Giladhiz chose a genre most suitable for him, he was able to maintain a successful blog and make that connection with readers from a digital standpoint, which is cool!

  8. To really effectively communicate with your audience, the author has to combine all the strategies you listed above to become successful. Lacking the understanding of who your audience is can completely miss the mark in the purpose of the writing. These strategies can work in reverse too, so that the audience can get to know the author as well.

  9. Sydney, I also agree with you that there very a variety of different devices that can be utilized when trying to clearly get a point across that you would like your audience to receive. There really are an endless amount of genres that can be used when creating a piece.

  10. I also didn't know that a research paper was considered a genre! I also really like how you started your response, and how you recognized each step you need to take when writing a piece, and how that's how you choose your genre overall (based on your purpose and audience). I think this chapter shed light on this topic that most of us think we know a lot of, but discover there are so many more details to learn.

  11. I agree that these steps before starting the writing process are important, and in the past I have overlooked them, or gone through the process too fast. I think the use of these steps will be rewarding in my future writing.

For my action plan I will add more pictures to my website and continue to expand on my topic. Rachel Klahm 3/27/18

1) In project two I first did a lot of research to gather ideas and topics that I wanted to include in my essay. Then I went through and proofed it while adding citations and formatting everything. I did ended up doing three drafts rather than two. Project one was a little easier to write in my opinion because it was based off of our observations rather than facts and statistics. 2) I liked taking my first draft and transforming it into a final draft. This is where I organized all my thoughts and made the paper flow nicely. Once I have all my ideas out on the paper I can easily reorganize, cut and add new things. 3) I enjoyed project one more. I think it was lighter in the sense that it was more fun to write about. I liked exploring the different kinds of social adaptions in the films while also comparing time eras.
Jamica Williams What are some subversion examples the author mentions? A few books the the author mentions It's just a plant, Heather has two Mommies, and Gloria Goes Gay Can you think of other 2 books or movies that are subversion? Scary movie 1 and 2 Why are they subversion? Scary movie is subversive because it takes into account the the rhetorical factors in most scary movies and joke on them. Its more of a comedy than a "scary" movie. Each of the characters do exactly whats expected. They run the opposite way like up the stairs, trip and fall multiple times, and even live with the ghost that is haunting them. What do you think "GO THE FUCK TO SLEEP?" Who should be the target audience for this book? The audience of this book is any adult/parent. Because its probably R-Rated its targeted to older people, and anyone can find this humorous.
