When I am brainstorming before writing a paper, the first thing I do is search the topic on Google. I look at what websites come up first and look to see what ones would be most beneficial to writing a successful paper. Agreeing with the Bedford Book of Genres, being disciplined about what websites to use is a big factor in whether or not the paper will turn out strong and accurate. It is always a good idea to put in the opposite side of the argument you are trying to persuade when writing a paper. By doing so, you can formulate your own perspective and elaborate on it. Also by having an opposing view in your paper illustrates that you thoroughly researched your topic and have a lot of knowledge on it. Its important when picking a topic to do something different, not basic. Things like gay rights, abortion and school uniforms are all popular topics that people tend to write about too much. With not picking something too basic and uninteresting, its more likely it will intrigue the reader more, and they will want to continue reading. When picking a topic, I like to pick something that interests me. That way, I will want to research it and enjoy it doing it.
For my action plan I will add more pictures to my website and continue to expand on my topic. I also plan to make posters to place around campus to reach outside audiences and use that as my nondigital source. I will continue to work over the weekend to finish the project and best carry out my message on my website.
It is always important to not pick the first topic that comes to mind, or one of the "easier" topics to discuss. A lot of times when discussing controversial topics writers fail to provide counter arguments and therefore do not ave enough support and the paper becomes completely one sided.
ReplyDeleteResearch is essential in writing, and the explanation you give to choosing websites gives an understanding on what it takes to pick a solid topic. This also includes opposing views, and you mention this - allowing for a complete view on what you're writing about. Displaying both sides of a topic are essential when writing, and you explain this in a way that makes writing seem more intriguing when doing so.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Bedford Book of Genres as well when it stated that in order for a research paper to have a strong argument and not sound redundant, one must be well informed on what websites to use when composing a paper. I also agree with you that when choosing a topic one must pick something that has not been written about multiple times before, basically be original and not basic because you are right, readers will be more intrigued to continue to read the paper instead of reading the same information they had read about in the past.
