Chapter
six offered good advice and a check list of questions that I can use when
picking sources for my research paper. Prior to reading this chapter I knew how
to check if a source was reliable or not but now I have a much clearer way to
double and triple check that my sources are accurate. I did not know just how
many possible sources I could find while researching. For example, I didn’t know
there were so many different genres of sources such as general and specialized
academic. Primary, secondary and tertiary sources offer different
interpretations of pieces. Primary sources are from a firsthand point of view.
They are created by people who actually experienced specific events and are
sharing their story and information. Secondary sources are interpretations of
primary sources. Someone must take an original piece or artifact, analyze it,
then interpret it in their own way. Tertiary sources deal with interpreting
various secondary sources. These sources can be a little more dangerous to use
than secondary or primary but as long as you check the accuracy and credibility
of the source, you will be fine! This chapter taught me a lot about the various
types of sources that I have at my disposal for future research papers.
