Ayhan claims that suicide risk in prisoners heavily correlates with mental and physical health, as well as researches the variables that cause suicide in this research article. By using a survey, called MINI(mini international neuropsychiatric interview) prisoners were deemed as having an either low, medium, or high rate of suicide. Questions in the interview included asking about personal past experiences, suicidal thoughts, and suicide plans. Out of the 785 registered inmates, 13-14% had high risks, as well as medium risks of suicide., while about 42% had low risks. Many of the given prisoners with medium-to-high risk had correlations with depression, anxiety, and abuse. This author argues these rates should be paid attention to, and tested in other prison environments, as to limit death rates in prison.
