Throughout this chapter I learned how important it is to choose reliable sources in my writing, as well as what sources are more valid. A specialized academic source that is found through a data base has more logical and useful information than an article found through a search engine like google. There are different levels of sources, including primary, secondary, and tertiary. Depending on if the source is an original, a review, or an evaluation, you decide which type of source to look for. Using the information from this chapter about finding sources, along with what we learned about the databases at the library, I believe finding sources will be much easier. Also, by using the tips offered in this chapter, it will be easier to determine styles, genres, and purposes of my sources.

    I also agree that after reading this chapter and learning about the resources provided by our library, finding sources will be so much easier.

    Alison, I also feel like the book really emphasized the importance of sources and how many different kinds are at our disposal. I also agree that the tips offered by this chapter will be very useful in determining which sources will be best to use on our own papers.

    From this article I also learned how to pick a source that is more credible. The three different kinds of sources, primary, tertiary, secondary are important to take into account. Databases are a great source to find sources because they are peer-reviewed and the information given in this article makes it easier to find sources.

Subversion and Redemption. Rachel Klahm

1. Some subversion examples the author mentions are Max in  Where the Wild Things Are and Don Quixote. Other movies that are subversions are  A Haunted House and WALL-E. WALL-E is a subversion because it's a light hearted cartoon with a much deeper meaning. Humans have abused planet Earth with industrial corporations to the point where they must abandon it until robots have cleaned it up. The moral lesson is that technology and industry are bad and if we continue on the path we're on, the Earth will turn into the trash ridden world that is in WALL-E. Despite this, the film is still pro-human. Compared to the usual "humans are bad for nature" lesson, WALL-E  actually shows why Earth needs humans. The movie has no real dialogue from anyone, just robot sounds and intercom voices on the ship that the humans live on. Mary Katherine Rankey annoying ways

The reading "Annoying Ways" is all about the annoying ways people choose to use their sources and the things they can do to change those quirks. The reading discussed the proper ways to cite sources and to cite quotes that the writer uses in their paper. The reading also discusses the importance of where to put a quote. Often times I find the perfect quote, but put it in an awkward place in the sentence, which not only makes my work more sloppy, but also takes away from the message of the quote. The author uses a lot of analogies in his writing to explain how the annoying ways of improper uses of quotes can mimic annoying things in real life. The reading taught me ways I can fix my writing style to fix those annoying habits I have.
