Ayhan argues the psychological and health issues related to suicide and the high risk of suicide is highly prevalent among prisoners. Ayhan discusses the study conducted where they focused on the prisoners in French Guiana to look into the suicide rates. The study focused on incoming prisoners, excluding ones with legal guardians. They gave them a psychological exam, also known as the MINI, to analyze their background with suicide, depression, harming themselves, etc. The majority of this study were males, and the test proved that 14% suffered from a high risk of suicide, and 41% faced a low risk of suicide. The study concluded that there are various factors associated with suicide like panic disorder, depression, and others. Also, there is really no difference among races with the suicide rate, but the suicide rate was lower in mainland France.
